CWD in Michigan

I got some really bad news today when I found out that for the first time, a deer in Michigan has been diagnosed with Chronic Wasting Disease. So far the only case has been found in a three year old whitetail at a private facility in Kent County. The really bad news is that I live in Kent County and bow hunt there as well. I have heard horror stories of conservation officers having to wipe out entire counties of deer to prevent the spread of CWD. I’m praying that thisĀ is just an isolated case and that it can be contained, so that such drastic measures don’t need to be taken. Here’s a link to a detailed write up of the situation with CWD in Kent County, Michigan. http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/article/CWD_MI

I saw this too. Unfortunately, this is really, really bad news. Lets hope that they are able to isolate the deer to deer farms and are able avoid some of the more extreme preventative options.

I work at Dicks sporting goods in the hunting department and today a customer told me that the results finally came back from the deer with cwd and they showed it wasent cwd and now the man who ownes the farm and had his herd killed is sewing Michigan. Is there any truth to this or is it just a romor?

Hey Craig,

I’m not sure about this, but I will definitely look into it and post an update.
