I shot my first deer with this shot this weekend at 110 yards. She dropped like a hammer and died immediately. I was using a 7mm08 with 140 grain Remington Core Lokt bullet.

I have been looking into this shot a great deal. There isn't a great deal of info out there. I was wondering what caliber and bullet weight would be best for this shot?

Thanks for the article. This is very helpful. I "accidentally" hit this spot last fall when going for the traditional lungs shot. I was amazed at how quickly the deer not only went down, but expired. I do believe I am going to make this my standard shot from herein out. The loss of a little meat is much better than the possibility of losing a deer that can still run a considerable distance.

Thanks again for the excellent reference article. I am going to pass it on to others.

Thanks Ed, more great proof of the effectiveness of this shot! But just to clarify, my deer did drop immediately as well. He was 30 yards away when I shot him, but he dropped right there once he was hit.

I like this shot myself because I hunt in a deep swamp, and I do not relish the thought of tracking a deer through a wetland after dark. If properly placed, the deer should drop immediately, not after 30 yards, as the author's did. I've made this shot myself and seen many others do it with the same instant effect on all sizes of deer and other four legged game.
