Off Season Training for Buck Fever

20 Apr
2010

It’s that time of year again that we need to begin preparing for that marathon we call the deer hunting season. I like to combine a good work out with archery target practice, in an effort to prepare for buck fever. Check out this quick video to learn more about one of my favorite training methods.

Good stuff! That’s an awesome way to simulate the adrenaline rush of big buck. I love doing that for training.

Nice Mark. I think you’re right. It’s a good way to try and simulate that in the woods.

But you and I both know crunch time is a different feeling than taking a jog and subsequently shooting your bow.

The adrenaline is toughest to emulate in this situation. (I’m thinking of the uncontrollable shaking and shivering.)

And I still think there’s a mental hurdle that’s untrainable. Big difference between a target and a buck standing in front of you.

I also believe though that controlling your breathing and feeling your heart beat makes this a worthwhile exercise.

Overall this is really cool. I’ll have to try it out for sure. Interesting experiment. Kudos man.

I agree 100% Jeremy. There’s nothing you can do that will perfectly simulate that adrenaline rush and all the mental craziness that occurs with a buck in front of you. That being said, I still think this is a decent way to get a little bit closer to the “heat of the moment”. If you do give it a go, let us know what you think!

Mark,
Great advice.
I will have to try your suggestions. I am a bit older than you (and apparently not as good of a shot), so I will need alot more cardio.

You know, I’ve been thinking about this and was trying to figure out a way to do this at the range. I know that the other shooters will think I’m weird doing jumping jacks. But they think I’m weird anyway shooting my traditional black powder rifle. =]

LOL. More power to ya Bill! If you can pull this off at the range I would have to give you big “props”.
