The state of Maryland has just approved the use of non-lethal birth control for deer to curtail populations where “hunting and other options do not work”. I’ve got major issues with that last quote, but things are even worse when The Humane Society comes out in support of it! Humane Society “scientist” Stephanie Boyles (I question the legitimacy of any such humane society “scientist”), claims that it’s “a step along the way to better deer population control short of shooting and killing the animals.”
What a joke. Not only is this a ridiculous waste of state resources, but it’s another dangerous arrow in the quiver for anti-hunting organizations such as PETA and The Humane Society. I know they’ll be touting this around as the “civilized” alternative to hunting everywhere they can. If this type of proposal is up in your area, I would urge you to do everything you can to stop it. Hunting is the most effective, cost-efficient and natural means to controlling deer populations. Lets keep it that way.
