I’ve got your attention right? You can’t read that title and not be intrigued, and I certainly was intrigued when I heard that Piers Morgan of CNN News would be inviting Ted Nugent on to his program to debate gun control last night. Two outspoken advocates for their two opposing factions…Piers Morgan the poster boy of liberal, pacifist, anti-gun activists and Ted Nugent, the flag waving, deer killing, very opinionated, Music City Madman supporter of the 2nd Amendment right. The great gun control debate has been raging, and this would surely be an interesting addition to that dialogue.
And it most certainly was. Piers Morgan has been waging, what seems to be, a personal war against the 2nd Amendment and American gun owners over the past couple months, and he continued his propaganda in last nights television special advertised as “Piers in Gun Country”. Filmed from a gun shop and shooting range in Texas, Morgan was running through his usual list of anti-gun rhetoric and using recent tragedies as ammunition for his arguments. After nearly a half hour of Piers’ schtick, I’d nearly had enough. But things were about to change.
Enter Ted Nugent.
Now, some of you may recall Piers and Ted’s first interview (to my knowledge, it was their first), in which things got very heated. Nugent ended up making a few “colorful” remarks that were less than helpful, which on occasion Ted does in the heat of the moment. But this time around, it appeared that Ted would be taking a different approach. And after watching Nugent go head to head with the British Piers Morgan, I was pleased to see Ted focus on a core argument against Piers’ attacks that I think resonates with a lot of people. It’s summed up nicely in a brief exchange that I’ve quoted below …
“Do you care about murders?” Nugent asked. “Or do you only care about about murders with guns?”
Morgan answered, “I care about all death.”
“I don’t think you do,” Nugent shot back. “I think you care about guns. You’re obsessed with guns.”… “99.99% of the gun owners of America are wonderful people that you are hanging around with here today. Perfectly safe. Perfectly harmless. Wonderful, loving, generous, giving, caring people. Would you just leave us the hell alone? Go after the nut jobs, go after the murderers, because I don’t know any. We need to lock up the bad guys and when people show dangerous, murderous intent, which everyone one of these mass murderers showed — all their neighbors, their family, their teachers, their fellow students, they all knew they were crazy, but Piers, we didn’t stop them because we’re worried about hurting their feelings. We have a mad man problem in America, we have a felony recidivism problem in America. Let’s focus on that together, and then leave the rest of us alone!”
Say what you will about Ted Nugent, some folks love him, some folks hate him. But I certainly do appreciate his steadfast support and advocacy for hunting and shooting in this nation, and I’m glad to see someone standing up to Morgan and his agenda.
