Last year, Sitka Gear’s new launch for the whitetail hunter was the Early Season Whitetail Pant and it was received very positively. This year, to keep that momentum rolling, they’ve launched the perfect complement – the Early Season Whitetail Jacket.
As the name so clearly indicates, this is a jacket made for those late summer and early fall hunts when the sun is bright, the temperatures are high and the leaves are still plentiful. With these kinds of conditions in mind, the ESW Jacket is made from lightweight and ultra-breathable fabric. It will cut the wind and handle some light precipitation, but mostly this is made for handling those slow and sunny days on stand. This jacket uses a 4-way stretch material as well, allowing for a close articulated fit, while still being flexible when moving. Also of note, the exterior of this jacket is brushed, creating a near silent outer-face.
As is usual with the Sitka products for whitetail hunters, in the ESW Jacket they’ve introduced some neat pocket innovation. This jacket of course has your normal hand pockets on the sides, and a nice zipped chest pocket on the left side. But unique to the ESW is a large, easy to open “dump” pocket on the right chest, which allows for easy access or “dumping” of a range finder, grunt tube, or phone when in the heat of the moment. It’s something I know would come in handy during a hunt.
Overall, this looks like another solid addition to the Sitka layering system for whitetails!
