Back in April or May of this year, I began work on a feature story for Outdoor Life in which I was tasked with finding five DIY whitetail hunters who go above and beyond the norms when it comes to hunting the rut. I wanted to find and profile a set of deer hunters whose dedication was unparalleled, whose strategies might be viewed as downright crazy, and whose success during the rut would be jaw-dropping.
After scouring my own personal network and the depths of the internet, I found five such hunters. And in interviewing these guys and putting their ideas and stories into this article, I was profoundly inspired. In fact, these conversations motivated me to try my own DIY public land whitetail adventure, which I ended up going on this past September in Montana. That said, the article was recently published in the November issue of Outdoor Life and more recently on their website. And now that it’s available online, I wanted to make sure you all had a chance to take a look.
Hopefully these hunters and their stories might be able to inspire you as much as they did me.
